The State System of Communication
on Human Rights
The Rede Estadual de Direitos Humanos- RN, REDH-RN (Human Rights Network
of Rio Grande do Norte) runs the Sistema
Estadual de Comunicação sobre Direitos Humanos (State System of Communication
on Human Rights) that intends to reach all of the 167 districts in the state.
The system has a “glocal” character—meaning that it brings together both the
local and global dynamic, with the intention to create ties between each district
and each community in Rio Grande do Norte and throughout the world, projecting
the local micro-realities into the global macro-reality and allowing a general
understanding of human rights—national and international—and their instruments
of protection to reach populations that are generally marginalized and excluded.
The System broadens the forms
of communication—each with specific functions and objectives—but all part
of one united “glocal” vision, that will inform and mobilize the people starting
from the most basic use of the megaphone in the streets up through the most
high-tech forms of communication which allows for this information to reach
the rest of the world.
The Sistema Estadual de Direitos Humanos depends on various methods of
communication ranging from DHnet Rede
de Direitos Humanos e Cultura (Network for Human Rights and Culture),
Rede RN De Direitos Humanos Online (Online
Network of Human Rights) — which is part of Rede
Brasil (Brazil Network), the journal Tecido
Social (Social Ties) — in both printed and electronic versions, posters
and billboards, audio CDs for local radio stations, Rádio DHnet - an online radio station, a multi-media digital library
on Human Rights, street theater, puppet theater, and ultimately- the use of
megaphones.
